Almost 30 years ago, Tom Watson needed a way to put himself through college. But instead of taking a traditional job, Tom set out on his own with only three things....a pick-up truck, a chain saw, and a desire to succeed. Now, 30 years later, Watson's Tree Service is Michiana's largest and most respected Tree, Soil, and Mulch farm in the Midwest!
Says Watson, "I never really dreamed that it would turn out this way. I needed some money for school, and I just did what I knew how to do.....take down trees that people didn't want anymore and haul them away in my pick-up. It was pretty hard work, but very rewarding, too. I knew whether I failed or made it, I'd do it on my own. As it turns out, I made it. And that's the rewarding part."
Rewarding indeed. That one pick-up truck and chain saw has grown to include a fleet of vehicles ranging from a dozen or so pick-ups, all the way up to huge semi trucks. "At last count," says Watson, "I think we had almost 30 vehicles of one kind or another. It's getting kind of hard to keep track." |
